Water from the Mountain

Discover the journey of one of the world’s most captivating water treatment (eco)systems in Freshwaters Illustrated 's new film WATER FROM THE MOUNTAIN!

Hidden in the headwaters of Puerto Rico's El Yunque National Forest lives a very special community of aquatic life. Thousands, possibly millions of alien-like shrimp make their living each day as miniature water treatment plants. Busy at work, both day and night, these armies of shrimp do their part to filter and clean the water that eventually flows into towns and cities where it is used by humans. From shrimp to humans, clean water is crucial to the wellbeing of all species. In an effort to bring awareness to the importance of these shrimp, Freshwaters Illustrated has partnered with the U.S. Forest Service and the the Luquillo Long Term Ecological Reseach site to help share the story of Puerto Rico's rivers and celebrate the unique freshwater diversity that inhabit in these tropical forests.
